Traditionally, making a bleach tray involves pouring a stone model, manually applying blue block-out resin to create space for the gel, and curing it. This is messy and time-consuming. China Dental Labo offers Digital Bleach Tray Model Design. We digitally sculpt the reservoirs and block out undercuts on the STL file. You simply print the model and thermoform the sheet immediately.
Technical Engineering Specifications
We customize the reservoir parameters to control the volume of whitening gel and protect the gingiva:
Reservoir Design
- Gel Spacer: We apply a uniform offset (typically 0.5mm – 1.0mm) on the facial surface of the teeth to create a pocket for the whitening gel.
- Margin Seal: The reservoir stops 1.0mm short of the gingival margin. This creates a tight seal preventing the gel from leaking onto the gums and causing irritation.
Model Optimization
- Undercut Block-out: We automatically fill severe undercuts so the thermoformed tray can be removed easily without locking onto the model.
- Gingival Relief: Slight relief is added around the gumline to ensure the tray edge doesn’t blanch the tissue.
Direct Print vs. Thermoform Model
We support both workflows:
- Standard (Thermoform): We design the Model. You print the model and suck-down a traditional EVA sheet. (Recommended for cost efficiency).
- Direct Print Splint: We design the Tray itself (Shell). You print it using flexible biocompatible resin (e.g., KeySplint Soft).

- Scan: Upload Intraoral Scans.
- Prescribe: Select “Bleach Tray Model” and specify reservoir thickness (e.g., 0.5mm).
- Design: We deliver the STL model file overnight.
- Print: Print the model using cheap draft resin and thermoform.
